High-efficiency steel belt cooling and pastillating solutions tailored for modern thermoplastic processing lines.
In the global chemical and adhesive manufacturing landscape, the transition from liquid raw materials to solid, easily transportable, and highly stable final formulations is a critical phase. Belt Flaking Machines stand at the heart of this process within Hot Melt Adhesive (HMA) Pelletizing Production Lines.
Hot melt adhesives, primarily formulated from base polymers (such as EVA, polyolefins, polyamides, and reactive polyurethanes), tackifiers, and waxes, require rapid, controlled cooling to lock in their chemical properties and prevent degradation. Our steel belt cooling systems ensure that the molten adhesive is distributed uniformly, cooled efficiently via indirect water contact, and flaked cleanly without thermal stress or contamination.
As global demand for eco-friendly, solvent-free adhesives surges across packaging, automotive, electronics, and woodworking sectors, manufacturers are shifting toward continuous, automated steel belt flakers. These systems eliminate the inefficiencies of batch processing and deliver uniform product thickness and moisture-free flakes ready for high-speed packaging lines.
Modern HMA production demands high throughput, low energy consumption, and maximum operational safety. Traditional cooling methods, such as water-ring pelletizing or underwater pelletizing, often introduce moisture to the product, which can lead to hydrolysis or compounding failures in sensitive adhesives like polyamides or reactive polyurethanes (PUR).
Indirect Cooling Technology: By spraying chilled water onto the underside of the stainless steel belt, heat is transferred rapidly away from the adhesive sheet without any direct contact between the water and the chemical. This guarantees a completely dry, contamination-free output.
Reduced Sticky Material Handling: Hot melt adhesives are inherently tacky. Our belt flaking machines utilize specialized release mechanisms, precision temperature profiling, and optional non-stick coatings to ensure clean discharge at the breaker terminal, minimizing product loss and maintenance downtime.
Understanding the engineering behind our steel belt cooling and flaking systems.
The process begins at the feed section, where the molten hot melt adhesive is pumped from the reactor or extruder at temperatures ranging from 120°C to 200°C. A specialized distribution nozzle or feed weir deposits a uniform film of liquid adhesive across the width of the moving steel belt.
The steel belt acts as a high-performance heat exchanger. As the belt carries the hot adhesive forward, it passes over a series of cooling zones. Chilled water is sprayed through high-efficiency nozzles against the underside of the belt, rapidly solidifying the adhesive sheet.
At the discharge end of the machine, the cooled and solidified adhesive sheet detaches naturally from the steel belt as it bends around the terminal drum. A rotary breaker or flaker then cuts the brittle sheet into uniform flakes of the desired size.
Our production lines are equipped with advanced sensors and PLC control systems, allowing operators to monitor belt speed, cooling water temperature, feed rate, and flake thickness in real-time. This ensures consistent product quality and minimizes operator error.
Key technological innovations that set our hot melt adhesive pelletizing lines apart.
Indirect spray cooling ensures that the cooling medium never touches the adhesive. This is essential for maintaining the optical clarity and chemical purity of high-grade HMAs.
Optimized heat transfer dynamics through thin, high-conductivity stainless steel belts reduce the load on your industrial chillers, lowering utility costs by up to 25%.
Available in various belt widths and lengths, our machines can be scaled to support production capacities ranging from pilot lab testing up to 8,000 kg/hr industrial outputs.
How our belt flaker adapts to different thermoplastic and chemical formulations.
EVA-based formulations are the workhorses of the packaging and bookbinding industries. They require rapid cooling to control crystallization and maintain flexibility. Our steel belt flakers prevent the material from sticking to the surface by utilizing precise zone cooling, ensuring that the sheet is completely crystallized and brittle enough to flake cleanly at the discharge terminal without creating excessive fines or dust.
PSAs remain permanently tacky even when cooled. Processing these materials on standard cooling lines is highly challenging. Our specialized belt flaking machines can be configured with anti-stick release agents or custom belt coatings. Combined with low-temperature cooling zones, we successfully solidify and flake PSAs, transforming them into manageable, non-blocking flakes that can be easily packaged and shipped.
These high-performance adhesives are widely used in the automotive and textile industries due to their high heat resistance and chemical stability. They melt at high temperatures (often exceeding 180°C) and require robust, heat-resistant steel belts that can handle extreme thermal cycling without warping. Raidsant's premium steel belts are designed specifically to withstand these thermal stresses, delivering consistent performance year after year.
PUR hot melts cure upon exposure to atmospheric moisture. Therefore, the cooling and flaking process must be carried out in a controlled, dry environment. Our belt flaking systems can be enclosed in nitrogen-blanketed or dry-air housing units, preventing moisture contact during the critical cooling phase and preserving the adhesive's reactive properties for the end-user.
