Engineered specifically for hot melt adhesive (HMA) solidification, these systems deliver uniform heat transfer and precise pellet formation.
Hot Melt Adhesives (HMAs) are widely utilized across packaging, woodworking, automotive, and hygiene product manufacturing. The global demand for high-performance HMAs—including Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate (EVA), Metallocene Polyolefins (mPO), Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives (PSA), and Amorphous Poly-alpha-olefins (APAO)—has triggered a need for faster, cleaner, and more energy-efficient production methods.
At the heart of the HMA production line lies the cooling and pelletizing stage. Because hot melt adhesives are inherently sticky, have low thermal conductivity, and are highly sensitive to temperature variations, converting them from a molten state into uniform, free-flowing pellets is a significant engineering challenge. Traditional cooling methods, such as underwater pelletizing or water-strand cooling, often suffer from water-entrainment issues, high energy consumption, and complex drying requirements. This makes steel belt pastillation the premium choice for modern manufacturers.
When evaluating the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for an adhesive pelletizing line, operational costs (OPEX) such as energy, maintenance, water treatment, and product waste often overshadow the initial capital expenditure (CAPEX). Steel belt pastillators present a highly cost-effective alternative by optimizing heat transfer dynamics.
The system operates by depositing molten adhesive droplets onto a continuously moving stainless steel belt. Cold water is sprayed against the underside of the belt, transferring heat rapidly from the product through the highly conductive steel. The cooling water remains in a closed-loop system, never coming into direct contact with the adhesive. This eliminates the need for expensive wastewater treatment plants and prevents product contamination.
Additionally, because the pellets solidify on a flat, non-stick surface, release agents are minimized or entirely omitted. This reduces material costs and ensures the pure formulation of your adhesive is maintained. The resulting pellets are discharged cleanly at the end of the belt run, ready for immediate packaging without requiring a separate, energy-intensive centrifugal drying phase.
1. Low Energy Footprint: Eliminates high-power dryers and heavy water pump motors, resulting in up to a 40% reduction in electricity consumption.
2. Minimal Product Waste: Precise dropformer synchronization prevents tailing and scrap generation during startup and shutdown cycles.
3. Reduced Maintenance Cost: High-tensile steel belts resist wear and corrosion, requiring minimal downtime compared to high-speed underwater cutting blades.
4. Compact Floor Plan: The linear design optimizes factory space, allowing for easy integration into existing extrusion setups.
Steel belt pastillator technology originated in Europe during the 1980s and entered the Chinese market in the late 1990s. Initially, due to its high cost, only a handful of large enterprises purchased and utilised it. To break the monopoly of foreign equipment, we commenced independent research and development of steel belt condensation pastillator as early as 2000.
Steel belt pastillator are primarily applied across multiple sectors including petrochemicals, daily chemical products, fine chemicals, and agricultural fertilizers.

As the chemical industry shifts toward sustainability and smart manufacturing, cooling systems must evolve to keep pace.
With environmental regulations tightening, the market for bio-based hot melt adhesives (derived from starches, polylactic acid, or terpene resins) is growing rapidly. These materials often exhibit unique thermal behaviors and narrower crystallization windows. Our steel belt cooling systems offer precise, multi-zone temperature profiling to solidify these sensitive polymers without degrading their structural integrity.
Modern production lines require real-time monitoring. By integrating infrared temperature sensors and automated feed control, our pastillators dynamically adjust the belt speed and spray cooling intensity to match fluctuations in the extruder output. This maintains consistent pellet quality and avoids manual intervention.
Water conservation is a top priority for global chemical plants. Our cooling solutions implement advanced heat exchangers and closed-loop filtration, reducing water consumption to near zero. Waste heat recovered from the cooling water can also be redirected to pre-heat feeding lines, improving overall factory energy efficiency.
For highly tacky PSAs (Pressure Sensitive Adhesives), standard steel belts can face release issues. We have developed specialized micro-textured belt surfaces and food-grade, thin-film release systems that ensure clean discharge of even the stickiest formulations without leaving residue on the belt.
